Prototype
From a Greek etymological origin, protós = first and typos = model, base, mold, the word indicates the first mold, first model, and refers to what is planned or built to materialize and evaluate an idea. In the industry, before the launch of a product, multiple prototypes are built to test and validate the format, use, materials with which it was built, costs, and functionalities, among other aspects.
Prototype: methodology and mobilization for STEM
In Design Thinking, a methodology for developing solutions to complex problems, the prototype refers to a phase of the process of creating an answer; when what was based on the ideation process is materialized. The proposal is that the prototype allows the testing of a concept, idea, or thesis, responding to the challenge to be faced or answered.
In the educational proposal of Samsung Solve for Tomorrow, the prototype gives shape to the students’ idea, involving hands-on construction and mobilization of STEM knowledge. More than a product to be evaluated or appreciated by the community, the prototype is a stage of the project journey that serves the learning process of young people, who combine their knowledge in the construction of a concrete solution to a problem encountered.
